Introduction to Physics

Physics is one of the most fundamental branches of science that helps us understand how the universe works. It deals with the study of matter, energy, motion, and the forces of nature that govern everything around us—from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies.

In everyday life, physics explains simple phenomena such as why objects fall, how we see light, how sound travels, and how machines work. From electricity in our homes to advanced medical technologies like MRI and X-rays, physics plays a crucial role in modern life.

For NEET aspirants, physics is not just about formulas and calculations—it is about developing a logical and analytical way of thinking. It helps students build problem-solving skills that are essential not only for exams but also for understanding real-world applications in medicine and technology.

Physics is broadly divided into areas such as:

  • Mechanics (motion and forces)

  • Thermodynamics (heat and energy)

  • Electromagnetism (electricity and magnetism)

  • Optics (light)

  • Modern Physics (atoms, nuclei, and quantum phenomena)

In the NEET syllabus, physics focuses on building strong concepts and applying them to solve numerical problems. A clear understanding of basic principles is the key to mastering the subject.

Course Content

UNIT 1: PHYSICS AND MEASUREMENT
Physics begins with the measurement of physical quantities, which involves a numerical value and a unit. To maintain uniformity worldwide, the SI system (International System of Units) is used, consisting of seven fundamental units such as meter, kilogram, and second. Other quantities are expressed as derived units, formed from these base units. Accurate measurement depends on the instruments used. The least count of an instrument determines the smallest value it can measure, directly affecting precision. However, no measurement is perfectly accurate due to errors, which may be systematic or random. Understanding accuracy and precision helps in evaluating the reliability of results. The concept of significant figures ensures that measurements are represented with proper precision, while rules of rounding help maintain consistency in calculations. To analyze physical quantities, we use dimensions, which express quantities in terms of fundamental units like mass, length, and time. Dimensional analysis is a powerful tool used to: Check the correctness of equations Convert units Derive relationships between physical quantities Overall, this chapter lays the foundation of physics, focusing on measurement, standard units, error analysis, and mathematical consistency—essential skills for solving numerical problems and understanding advanced concepts.
